The next version of in.cube8r gallery is showcasing this Thursday night. Almost Solo v.5 is a group exhibition involving a handful of artists showing off their bodies of work.
The in.cube8r gallery & emporium is a handmade store & emerging artist gallery located in Fitzroy. in.cube8r holds group shows every fortnight featuring (mostly) female millennial artists who live and create here in Melbourne. in.cube8r takes no commission on sales and aims to empower young artists to show their work and expand their horizons.
Described as not quite a solo show, and not quite a group show; Almost Solo is a little bit different. A small group of artists have been invited to take a piece of the gallery and treat it as their own. All the freedoms of a solo show, without any of the outlay. All the benefits of a group show, without any of the restrictions. Simply put: they create the art and in.cube8r take care of the rest. Better yet, you’re treated to a more extensive range of work by your new favourite artists – plural. After all it’s their show…almost.
Helen Demetriou is a Geelong-based artist, fresh out of her Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts). She is influenced by the traditional methods and research from her studies, as well as her own experiences, observational sketches and photographs. Helen uses experimental portraiture, figure painting, drawing, and other mixed media to explore ideas around personal identity – the mysterious, fragmented, colourful, and mundane.
Based in Victoria, Annabelle Mannings is an emerging artist specialising in oil painting and graphite. Annabelle’s art journey began at a young age with her scribbles soon becoming something more. Her style has continued to bloom with her as she has grown and is always evolving with each new work she completes. Inspired by the incidental beauty of nature and the nuances of the human psyche, Annabelle’s works feature atmospheric landscapes, broad skies as well as portraiture. Having completed a Certificate IV in Visual Arts, Annabelle is predominantly self-taught. This has allowed her to develop her own individual techniques and skills which serve her in her artistic exploration. Annabelle’s works are a part of a number of private collections. She has been involved in successful group and solo exhibitions and looks forward to adding to her experience as she makes her journey to becoming a professional artist.
Jamie Leigh Cornwell
Jamie Leigh is a painter and illustrator based in Melbourne. Her style fluctuates depending on her mood – from fine detailed line to expressionistic strokes to layers of dripping paint. Art is a release and a representation of Jamie Leigh’s inner thoughts, feelings, and dreams. She has been very influenced by her Maori heritage through the use of shapes, symbols and patterns. Combined with nature and its perfect imperfections and a powerful female presence feels fluent to her.
Fuelled by coffee, she loves getting creative with pencils, paint, photography, printmaking and digital art and all sorts of fun crafty projects. Heather is also a cat whisperer and loves to randomly adorn her art with cute little fluff balls.
