Theatre Preview: Stupid Fucking Bird

January 29, 2017
Stupid Fucking Birds

In February head to the Metanoia Theatre in Brunswick for Light Jar Theatre’s Stupid Fucking Bird, a modern take on the Checkhov classic, The Seagull, brought to us by Lightning Jar Theatre.

Metanoia is an artist-led company that creates and directs theatrical and performance experiences that are diverse in both form and perspective and Metanoia also presents artists and works that engage with the local and global landscape. The theatre itself is another intimate gem in Melbourne’s inner north.

Lightning Jar Theatre is an indie theatre company committed to bringing exciting new work to Melbourne and combines over 60 collective years of theatre experience to bring quality theatre right here on our doorstep.

With Stupid Fucking Bird, an aspiring young director rampages against the art created by his mother’s generation. A nubile young actress wrestles with an ageing Hollywood star for the affections of a renowned novelist. And everyone discovers just how disappointing love, art, and growing up can be. In this irreverent, contemporary, and very funny remix of Chekhov’s The Seagull, Aaron Posner stages a timeless battle between young and old, past and present, in search of the true meaning of it all. Stupid Fucking Bird will tickle, tantalize, and incite you to consider how art, love, and revolution fuel your own pursuit of happiness.

This production comes highly recommended, and considering it’s running from 8th February – 26th February, there’s really no excuse not grab yourself a ticket!
