In the colder months, there is nothing nicer than sitting with friends in a cosy studio, sharing food and wine, while burning some creative energy. The Northcote art and craft scene have a full winter line up of workshops for all ages and skill levels that run through the week and weekends.

This all ages event is led by award winning artist Jessie Rose Ford, a Melbourne based artist and tutor that specialises in botanical art and pet portraiture. In this three hour workshop, Jessie will guide you through the process of painting realistic leaves. You will learn skills in tonal variation, mixing colours, and painting shine and reflection to make the leaf look as good as a photograph.

Tickets are $150, but you can snap up some deals if you book in groups of two or more, and the prices includes all materials, grazing food, organic wine, and fair trade tea.

BEGINNER TO ADVANCED SEWING CLASSES

Learn the correct techniques of sewing in these beginner-advanced sewing lessons. Students make all items of clothing for themselves and their families, with the guidance of an experience tutor specialising in millinery, dressmaking, designing, and manufacturing.

In the 2 hour workshop, you will work with styles and patterns of your choice, learn to create garments that fit to your size, and learn how easy it is to make clothes for you and your family.

Tickets are $55 for the introduction to sewing class, and $270 for a 6 week term.

AIR DRY POTTERY WORKSHOP

This beginner’s pottery workshop led by artist, Laura Issell will teach you how to hand make ceramic bunting, wall hanging, plates, bowls and jewellery with clay. You will learn how to waterproof them, add colour and fabric to your designs, and learn ways to add texture, prints and unique designs to your creations.

The tickets are $150, but become cheaper when booking two or more tickets, and include organic wine, fairtrade teas, and a delicious grazing board, as well as all materials needed to make your clay creation.
