The 24th annual Reclink Community Cup is all set to be a day of epic proportions, celebrating the ultimate trinity of all things good in our grouse city: footy, music and community!
On Sunday 24th of June, Abbotsford’s, Victoria Park will turn into a stadium of celebration, as the Silver Jubilee Rockdogs get ready to take on the Megahertz in the battle of the year. The Community Cup is an annual event, whereby a bunch of local muso’s team up to form the Rockdogs, while Triple RRR and PBS workers and volunteers band together to create the Megahertz. This year’s theme takes inspiration from the Sly and the Family Stone’s classic, ‘Every Day People,’ shining a spotlight on inclusion, diversity and community spirit.
The fun doesn’t stop with the footy, the day is also filled with live music with a ripper line-up of Australian acts. This year will see Rudely Interrupted, punk rockers The Aints, Cable Ties, Hiatus Kaiyote and The Cartridge Family providing us with a diverse array of tunes to keep the fun flowing. To top this off, renowned Indigenous singer/songwriter Kutcha Edwards will perform the theme song of this year’s event – ‘Everyday People’.
The day is all about celebration of life and the great community of Melbourne, as well as to support the important work of Reclink Australia, the charity that provides sport, recreation and arts programs for people with disabilities, at risk youth, people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence as well as those dealing with gambling, alcohol and drug addictions. This is an extremely important organisation that does huge work for the community and this event is an epic day of fundraising with an emphasis on fun.
Get ready to come together as a community to shout, party and dance as the Rockdogs battle it out with the Megahertz, whilst listening to the tunes of some of the best local talent going around – in a reminder that “we are the same whatever we do…we got to live together” We are all Everyday People!
