Tamil Feasts, Supporting Asylum Seekers Over Dinner

January 9, 2017
Tamil Festival

Tamil Feasts, based out of the fantastic CERES Community Environment Park in Brunswick East, is a social enterprise employing four asylum seekers who were detained for over 6 years. The project is a unique affair and continues to succeed, with Nirma, Sri, Niro and Nigethan’s excellent cooking, infectious energy and unrivaled perseverance attracting diners week in week out.

As those who have previously attended one of these exceptional celebrations of food and culture know, Tamil Feasts offers a unique opportunity to experience the vibrant colour, spice and flavour of authentic Tamil cuisine, rarely found outside Sri Lanka. But it gets better…

On the 23rd and 24th of January 2017, Tamil Feasts will be hosting WELCOME 2017! BEYOND THE FOOD & FACES!, a special event spread over two nights, and one that is set to be particularly poignant. Diners are invited to email across any questions for the guys, who are ready to tell their firsthand stories. So if there’s anything you’ve been wondering about asylum seeking or ‘boat people’ life, then this special event offers a unique opportunity to get honest and personal answers to the questions you’ve been wanting to ask.

Tamil Feasts have a limited capacity and are pre-book only. This special event is sure to be popular, so don’t miss out on your chance to get around the table for a night of storytelling, poetry, welcoming and of course feasting, with a traditional banquet of curries, chutneys, vadai, dahl, kormas and masalas on offer.
