Make A Difference This Mother’s Day

May 4, 2018

With Mother’s Day coming up, local store Obus is giving something back.

Until May 13th, the store is conducting a fundraising campaign to raise money for mothers and children currently detained on Nauru.

“We’re working with We Care Naru and Gifts for Nauru and Manus to gather donations of items and raise money for freight to get it all over there,” explains Obus Graphic Design and Marketing Manager, Tess McCabe.

“At Obus we regularly support social enterprises and initiate fundraising campaigns, mobilising our community of kind-hearted customers and followers.”

For the mothers and their children detained on Nauru, living conditions are squalid, and access to essential items limited.

With a choice of donating money toward food, clothing, vitamins, education, footwear or freight costs, Obus’ customers can do something to alleviate the hardship.

Monetary donations are accepted via Obus’ online store, or in person at their CBD, Northcote, Brunswick East or Fitzroy locations.

“Customers can also donate new/unworn clothing, footwear, non-perishable food items, vitamins and educational resources at any of our stores,” says Tess.

“We have baskets to collect these items in store and the organisations we are working with will send them over to their contacts in Nauru.

Those who donate will receive a 20% discount on their next Obus purchase.

The store hopes the fundraising will mean a change for mothers and children on Nauru this Mothers Day.

“Not all of us at Obus are mums, but all of us are heartbroken when we see the treatment and conditions families are living in on Nauru,” says Tess.

“We hope that by partnering with We Care Nauru and Gifts for Nauru & Manus – both hardworking, volunteer-run organisations – we can help make these families’ lives a little brighter!”
