The Melbourne heats of the RAW Comedy 2017 national open mic competition gets under way this Saturday in Melbourne’s inner north, with the first of the Melbourne heats taking place at Brunswick’s illustrious Howler. Further heats take place throughout January and February at both Howler and another local favourite, The Evelyn in Fitzroy.
Recognised as Australia’s biggest and most prestigious open mic comedy competition, heats take place simultaneously across the country as the best young and up and coming comedians compete to be crowned Australia’s greatest new talent.
The best on show in the heats around Victoria will proceed through to the Preliminary Finals from 27th February, and then the State Final on 27th March. Heats will also be conducted in all other states and territories of Australia.
The best of the best, nationally, will battle it out for the crown at the RAW Comedy crown at the National Grand Final during the Melbourne Comedy Festival in April and the National Grand Champ wins a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe!
Previous winners of the competition include Josh Thomas, Hannah Gadsby, Ronny Chieng, Celia Pacquola and Luke McGregor, so there is no reason why you can’t become the countries next big star!
Five minutes of new, original comedy material is all it takes – stand-up, sketch, double and triple acts, musical comedy are all welcome.
