The 10 day music festival warming up your winter is returning for a sixth time this July from the 13th-22nd. Celebrating Australian music, the festival aims to help musicians get more gigs, generate more business for venues, invite music lovers to the live scene and build new audiences, as well as help the music industry in general. So really, it’s a win-win-win-win…etc. situation for everyone!
Home to some of Melbourne’s most iconic music venues, The City of Yarra is calling for the area’s best local hubs to host chill tunes and hot beats to apply for this year’s festival. With a push on diversity and inclusion to be represented, the Council will back venues by providing financial, marketing and promotional support.
Leaps and Bounds Music Festival has always been about celebrating and promoting Australian music, inviting music lovers out to see great gigs in Yarra venues during Melbourne’s coldest months. Homegrown talents as well as internationally acclaimed musicians have previously showcased in the past. With over 50 live music venues in Yarra there are performances and events to suit music fans of every genre, all age groups and every budget all within walking distance.
The 2018 Leaps and Bounds Music Festival will span 10 days, including the annual Smith Street Dreaming – an outdoor event that celebrates Aboriginal culture and history in and around Smith Street, to be held on Saturday, July 21st. Last year, the footprint of Koorie history in Collingwood and Fitzroy was celebrated by acts including Frank Yamma, Emma Donovan, Yung Warriors, Indigenous HIP HOP Projects, and Jindi Worabak. Developed by the Smith Street Working Group, Dreaming celebrate the relationships between the people who reside, work, and/or visit Smith Street to better understand, respect and give peace to everyone. People were invited to gather around the fire with hot drinks and a light lunch provided by volunteers.
Venues will be able to pitch for Council support until Monday, April 9 and the festival program will be announced in May.
