Australia’s longest running inner-city music festival is celebrating its 30th year in the only way they know how: with great music, food and art, the vibrant atmosphere of Melbourne’s much-loved and quirkiest suburb comes alive with Brunswick Music Festival.
Running from 4-18th March, the festival has stacks of ticketed and free live music showcasing some of Melbourne’s biggest up and coming acts.
Kicking off the festivities this Sunday (4th March) is the annual Sydney Road Street Party. The iconic street will be transformed into party central for the day with a massive 200 acts set to take to the six stages; this is an event not to miss!
One of the must-see performances includes Jazz Party. The eight piece jazz ensemble has graced the stages around Melbourne many a times. Traditionally holding residencies around the city on a Monday night, their high energy, catchy melodies and exceptionally talented array of musicians are a feast for the eyes and ears.
“The band formed as an outlet for us,” lead singer and supreme goddess, Loretta Miller says. “Some of us were in another band and we were intensely touring overseas performing the same set night after night and we needed to play other stuff.
“Darcy began this residency at an underground venue and I sang on the first night and eventually worked my way into the band…people aren’t necessarily exposed to our style but when they witness it and see it I think we win them over….we have a bit of an edge and we aren’t ashamed to be ourselves up there.”
Blending in various influences from swing, R&B and gospel into their jazz mix, Jazz Party will have you up and about dancing and singing the night away. With songs like Talking In Your Sleep, Flowers and Mountain Goat, the proud brass sounds and Loretta’s outrageously soulful vocals that will blow you away, you will be sure to be grooving and moving throughout their set.
Don’t miss them at the Sydney Road Street Party, March 4th on the Edward Street Stage at 6pm.
