The self proclaimed “Hannah Montana of the rap game” is hitting The Gasometer next week as part of her three date East Coast tour.
Brisbane-based teen, Mallrat, has quickly emerged as one of Australian music’s rising stars after uploading a number of songs to Triple J’s Unearthed page. Part-rapper part-pop starlet, Mallrat dropped her debut EP Uninvited to critically acclaim last year. The EP is a diverse collection of songs demonstrating the 17-year-old’s witty lyrical flow over a variety of hip-hop influenced beats.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Mallrat declared she has no problems with being called a hip-hop artist, but claims her sound can’t be defined by one genre. “[My music’s] definitely influenced by hip-hop but I think leaning more towards pop than anything, and definitely electronic influenced.”
Joining her on tour are electronic wonder kid Oh Boy and Sydney’s Sidechains DJs.
Mallrat plays The Gasometer Thursday April 6. Tickets are available via Oztix.
