The non-competitive nature of parkour means you have the freedom to progress at your own pace. FOr insurance purposes, you will have to have attended one of their First Timers classes first. The Happy Prince at La Mamma Theatre, Carlton / 6.30pm

Head to La Mamma Theatre in Carlton on Wednesday night to catch the opening of The Happy Prince.

Based on Oscar Wilde’s iconic fairy tale, The Happy Prince, created especially for the 2017 Midsumma Festival, is an adults-only parable of a selfless swallow and a golden statue reveals the betrayal inherent in perceptions of gender, beauty, sex, and class. Memorialised in living death as a golden statue, a happy prince convinces a swallow to deliver jewels to the poor until, eventually, each of their hearts is broken. Little Ones Theatre transposes this moral and social allegory of Victorian oppression into the world of contemporary homo-sexual iconography.

If you can’t make Wednesday night, the show runs until January 29th and will set you back just $25 or $15 for concessions. Event Link

Aine Tyrrell
Spotted Mallard, Brunswick / 8pm

Be sure to head to the Spotted Mallard on Friday night to catch Aine Tyrrell. In early 2015 the Irish born singer songwriter took the pieces of her life and songs into the desert on a musical and spiritual journey. Recording outdoors beneath the stars and in abandoned mines amongst the red dust of the Australian outback, the fragments took form, resulting in the release of her stunning debut album Queen of Swords.

Aine’s music cradles the spirit of her native homeland, and tips the cap to a notable family history of Irish music tradition. Ache, honesty, elated melodies and garnishing rhythms which a thousand years of ancestry have slammed foot to floorboards to for both celebration and protest. Aine’s music has grown from those traditional Irish roots into a truly contemporary sound. Her music is tribal and wild, but also fragile and heartbreaking and most of all immaculately crafted. With Special Guest Sarah Carroll. Event Link
