Myth / Group Exhibition
in.cube8r gallery, Fitzroy / 11am – 5pm
Running until the end of May, this group exhibition is one you have to see to believe. The show, featuring works from Madi Ryan, Eddy Burger, Claire Cummings, Kitty Chrystal, just to name a few, delves into the mysterious powers of myths and how they shape our world. Handed down for generations that embody collective knowledge, many humans have been subject to live by the moral codes so actively believed though never quite proven. Artist’s work will explore this idea; choosing a myth and marinating their pieces into it; exploring the origins, inner working and the consequences of myths. Gold coin donations will be accepted for this month’s charity.

Synthesizers: Sound of the Future
Grainger Museum, Parkville / 12pm – 4pm
Melbourne is a hub for local and experimental sounds and music. This free exhibition celebrates the emergence of experimental electronic sound in our unique city. Pieces from the MESS collection will be feature, which tell the rarely heard of stories of Australian artists who brought these instruments into their artistic practice that impacts on both a local and global level. Most of the machines are in working order and available for visitors to interact with.

No singer is a bad one, so long as you can enjoy yourself with a pint of the best Guiness and bellow your heart out in this free event. Argh, sounds like a beauty!

The Met Opera: COSI FAN TUTTE

New York’s Metropolitan Opera are swooping in through Cinema Nova this weekend! The winning cast will be performing Phelim McDermott’s clever vision of Mozart’s comedy about the sexes. Set in a carnival-like environment (think 1950s Coney Island) the performance will shine through the voices of the Don Alfonso of Christopher Maltman and the Despina of Tony Award–winner Kelli O’Hara, with Amanda Majeski, Serena Malfi, Ben Bliss, and Adam Plachetka as the pairs of young lovers who test each other’s faithfulness.
