Come and imbibe from a streaming minstrel waterhole of mulled words during the first week of winter. A hot toddy for poetry lovers and a hearty broth for spoken word seekers. Welcome inside from the damp, the chill, the dreary and the darkness, at least for a few hours. Warm each-other up by igniting your gathered thoughts so that we can all share the glow and the radiant heat of showering spoken sparks. Set the second syllable of Brunswick alight on Monday night 5 June from 8pm with your verbal pyrotechnics!

Andrea Keller Trio: Clash of the Transients

Inspired by the philosophy and legacy of esteemed mentor Allan Browne, Transients is a series of ensembles drawn from a pool of Melbourne’s outstanding creative musicians that focus on a collective approach to music making. With repertoire ranging through conceptual improvisations, original compositions, James Bond themes and jazz standards, each ensemble creates a unique identity and dynamism.
Three sets featuring Andrea Keller with Julien Wilson & Sam Anning, and Stephen Magnusson & James McLean, culminating in the two trios joining forces to form a quintet.

The Northern Folk + This Way North

Hailing from Albury, NSW and now based in Melbourne, The Northern Folk are a collective of eleven musical ambitionists spreading their unique brand of folk/pop/stomp/rock into the roots of small towns and big cities alike. Soaring saxes, roaring brass, and bashful bass frame the band’s two lead vocals, with multi-layered harmonies and addictive percussion in tow.
This Way North spent the first half of the year, touring solidly off the back of two new singles. They’ve been everywhere from Alice Springs to NZ and are just about to head back to Canada for the festival season and to hit the studio with a bunch of new material.

The Quarter Street takes you back to the heart of classic salsa.
Inspired by the passion of salsa luminaries such as Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barreto and Ruben Blades, and emphasizing the raw sounds of New York in the 1970’s, The Quarter Street revisit an era where the music of the streets resonated with the voice of the people.
Formed in early 2011, a dynamic live band with a driving rhythm section and all-trombone horn section, this young vibrant group of talented musicians quickly made a splash in the Melbourne music scene.
